Simonside Primary School

Simonside Primary School

Robertson Construction were commissioned to construct a modern primary school in Newcastle which would replace the original primary school with a 21st century learning environment for pupils and teaching staff.

The new gymnasium can host a multitude of sports and to maximise the space. Architects Ryders incorporated a movable wall to allow the gymnasium space to be utilised simultaneously.

To meet the school’s criteria, AM Walls were specified to provide a top hung system without the need of a floor rail.

This approach provides a high sound reduction performance that allows team events either side without fear of disturbance. A hard wearing finish was also applied to help withstand sports activities.

At an impressive 7 meters tall the panels were hung from a two carrier suspension track.

Allowing the panels to smoothly slide and turn into their respective parking bays with considerable ease. When the panels connect the electric seals automatically expand locking the panels between track and floor.

The final closure was by means of a telescopic electric wall jamb concealed within the perimeter wall at one end.

When all seals are activated, the wall offers a 57dB Lab tested and independently validated solution as required by the school.

To allow quick access between the movable wall, 2 inset pass doors were incorporated with flush door furniture and hung on concealed hinges to avoid any projections into the sports hall.
